UK Ministry of Public Health: Although the US electronic atomization caused panic, we still support e-cigarettes.

On November 1st, according to foreign reports, John Newton, head of health improvement at the UK's Department of Public Health (PHE), insisted that even after a series of e-cigarette-related deaths and diseases occurred in the United States, e-cigarettes The harm is far less than smoking.

According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as of October 31, 1,888 Americans have been hospitalized and at least 37 have died of mysterious lung disease.

PHE claims that e-cigarettes are 95% less harmful than smoking and encourage traditional smokers to use e-cigarettes.

Newton reiterated that although the electronic atomization in the United States caused panic, PHE's proposal for nicotine-containing e-cigarettes has not changed.

Newton said that we are worried that the reaction to the problem in the United States and other countries may exacerbate widespread misunderstandings about the relative safety of nicotine e-cigarettes, which will prevent smokers from turning to e-cigarettes and risking smokers. Change back to smoking.

But Newton added that e-cigarette users should avoid buying unregulated equipment.

On the occasion of Newton’s comments, new data shows that a record number of Britons are using e-cigarettes.

The Smoking and Health Initiative (ASH) estimates that there are 3.6 million e-cigarette smokers in the UK and 7.2 million smokers in the UK in 2018.

The proportion of cigarettes that have switched to e-cigarettes has continued to grow, reaching 54.1% by 2019. Only 0.8% of smokers who have never smoked are current electronic cigarettes.

A proportion of 39.8% of users who used both cigarettes and e-cigarettes declined. The main reason for current smokers to use e-cigarettes is to reduce smoking (21%), followed by saving money (16%) than smoking, and then helping them quit (14%).

ASH CEO Deborah Arnott said: Obviously, the outbreak of electronic fog in the United States is worrying, but this seems to be related to the abuse of electronic cigarettes for illegal drug shipments. So far, there is no such situation in the UK, where an appropriate regulatory system for nicotine-containing e-cigarettes has been established, but not in the United States. It is essential that only legitimate e-cigarettes purchased from reputable suppliers in the UK can be used, and that illegal unregulated products cannot be purchased via the Internet.
